Biographical Background
Experienced as a school superintendent of several diverse school systems, Dr. Jack Bierwirth’s creative leadership has provided a collaborative environment where innovative learning programs have generated consistently high levels of student success.
Dr. Bierwirth is Superintendent of Schools for Long Island’s Herricks School District, a system that is recognized for the outstanding accomplishments of its students. A “bedroom” community to New York City, Herricks schools flourish under leadership that develops a vision for learning, sets performance goals, and encourages professional individuality in programs of accomplishment.
Previously, Dr. Bierwirth was Superintendent of the Portland, Oregon schools, one of the largest school systems in the Pacific Northwest. The Pew Charitable Trust selected the Portland schools as one of seven districts in the country to pioneer implementation of standards based education.
Dr. Bierwirth has also served as President of Outward Bound, USA, the largest and oldest wilderness education program in the country. Outward Bound, USA, serves 30,000 teenagers and adults per year. The Outward Bound program focuses on building self confidence, teamwork, and discipline - characteristics that can be found in the school systems lead by Dr. Bierwirth.
