Join us for another exciting episode as Arthur Griffin interviews Dr. Peter C. Gorman superintendent of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system.   Over the course of the interview, Dr. Gorman discusses several aspects of his time in Charlotte, and talks about the hard choices that come with a growing constituency and a shrinking budget, and about how to handle it when you’re faced with the decision to close schools.  But it’s not all doom and gloom!  He also talks about some of the successes he’s had and the areas he’s had to focus on to make his school system successful- describing the importance of being relevant and the need for professional development.

Biographical Background:

Peter C. Gorman, Ed.D., has more than two decades of experience in education.  He has been superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools since July 2006.

Gorman, a native of Dearborn, Michigan, began his educational career in Orlando, Florida, in 1987 after graduating from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He worked as a teacher, principal and administrator in Orange and Seminole counties before being named superintendent of schools in Tustin, California, in 2001.

He holds a master’s in business administration from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and a master’s and doctorate in education from the University of Central Florida. Gorman is active in the Charlotte community, serving on the boards of several agencies and organizations. He is also a member of several national advisory boards for public education.
